PRADO, Vagner Matias do  y  RIBEIRO, Arilda Ines Miranda. Physical education, sports and normalization: Gender as a device and the regulation of body experiences. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.3, pp.205-214. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.1590/edpuc19n201402.

Teaching physical education at school can contribute to the labeling of social differences based on gender and sexuality and categorization of the subjects through the assignment of criteria such as male-female, masculine-feminine, heterosexual-homosexual. Based on post-structuralist and queer theory studies, we discuss how gender norms regulate educational interventions in the implementation of the athletic content. Through semi-structured interviews, we collected narratives of experiences of homosexuals who attended physical education classes throughout their basic education. From the results it may be concluded that sports are commonly practiced in these classes within a framework of efficiency, competitiveness and exclusion from a gender perspective. This framework brings with it values that regard femininity as inferior and stigmatize men who do not demonstrate the ideals of masculinity/virility as advocated by these athletic practices.
