Abstract

CAMPOS, Patrícia Lemos  and  SILVA, Elenita Pinheiro de Queiroz. Ways of teaching and learning how to be a girl and boy. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.3, pp.215-225. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.1590/edpuc19n201403.

The Adolescent Health Booklet, one of the sources of this research, was established as one of the public policy actions of the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Brazil designed to guide the teenagers' life. The main goal of the booklet is to provide support to boys and girls during the stage in their life that consists of changes and discoveries of adolescence. In this article, which is part of a dissertation, we present an analysis of the booklet, its effect on teenagers' life and what they understand about sexuality. The theoretical foundation is based on studies of sexuality, gender and education and the works of Michel Foucault on discourse and sexuality. The results indicate that the texts and images in the booklet reproduce discourses that reaffirm the essentialized view of sexuality and gender and does not contemplate sexual and gender diversity. The reports of the adolescents who participated in the research corroborate our findings.
