Abstract

GLORIA, Dília Maria Andrade. Full-time school in some families vision: Between the ideal and the real situation. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.3, pp.239-247. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.1590/edpuc19n201405.

The aim of the paper was to consider whether the implementation of full-time public schooling, according to the families, improved students' school performance. The aim is to contribute to the discussion and evaluation of public policies in Brazil. The research adopted a qualitative approach that included data on the school routine, document analysis and semi-structured interviews with students' families. It was found that families, particularly those from the middle class, have criticized the proposal for full-time schooling because they perceived that the children became excessively tired and the curricular changes emphasized more on sport activities instead of school content and students' cultural education. These families state that ideal schooling is still far from becoming a reality as ideal full-time schooling must be a place for citizen development, ensuring the right to education for all students.
