Abstract

ALVES, Iury Lara  and  ANDRADE, Daniela Barros da Silva Freire. Education of infants: Between linearity and narrative. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.1, pp.01-11. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.122015/edupuc377112851.

The aim of the paper is to discuss the curricular dimension for the education of infants in early childhood education. The theoretical framework used was based on studies on the ontogenetic approach of social representations and the Historical and Cultural Theory. Within this perspective, we examine the different meanings of childhood and identify the requirements related to educational practices for infants. Through the analysis of an illustrative episode of an activity for infants in the nursery school, we discuss the value of narrative storytelling for the child's development, using it as a guide to consider the curriculum for infant education. The results indicated the following: the need to develop an educational and social framework for the education of infants; based on the considerations from the episode selected, our endeavor is to suggest the use of the narrative curriculum thus meeting the educational specificity, as the groups of informants, in this case the infants, proved to be powerful, active and inventive in their relationship with adults, peers and the nursery school itself.
