The theme proposed for this reflection discusses the teaching of writing and reading from a genre, the news, more specifically, one of its constituent parts, the lead. The aim of this article was to present and analyze the process of written productions of four pairs of children between the ages of six and eight enrolled in the second year of elementary education in a public school in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The data presented are the results of observations, interviews and a plan of action prepared in 2012 during action research. A didactic sequence was developed to promote change in the subjects studied and generate data for the analysis and understanding of the teaching process and learning how to write in elementary education. By offering children a writing genre, we noticed that the students engaged in the practice of writing texts and were able to produce independently the part of the compositional structure of the news genre. Writing in pairs enabled the exchange of knowledge between the children, learning strategies for reading and writing and social interaction.
