Abstract

GONCALVES, Josiane Peres  and  CORREA, Ana Maria. Educators in non-school settings: Prospects, barriers, and the possibility of working in companies. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.2, pp.193-209. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.5965/151939932112016015.

The objective of this study is to analyze the prospects, barriers, and the possibility for educators to work in companies. In addition to a theoretical analysis of educators working in non-school settings and in companies, a documentary research was carried out based on: scientific publications of the Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação; database of theses and dissertations Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior; official documents, such as pedagogical projects of Education Courses at the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul; and Civil Service exam regulations. The results indicate that the educators working in non-school contexts is a reality; however, it has not been often addressed in scientific circles. Although educators have license/certification to work in settings other than schools, the academia cannot embrace such flexibility. It was found that the possibility of this professional working in a business environment is remote because there are very few opportunities for jobs and the scope and coverage of Civil Service examinations do not reflect what is commonly taught in initial teacher training courses.
