Abstract

ZANLORENZI, Claudia Maria Petchak  and  NASCIMENTO, Maria Isabel Moura. The magazine ‘A Escola’ (1906-1910): Freedom and the teacher model using the intuitive method. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.3, pp.363-370. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.5965/151939932112016363.

This article is part of a doctoral research. The aim is to present the analysis on freedom using the intuitive method and the teacher model using the magazine ‘A Escola’, a magazine organized by public state teachers (1906-1910). The deficiency of schools for training teachers in the early twentieth century enabled other refined and effective mechanisms for the wide dissemination of the existing ideals and homogenization of work of this professional category by standardizing the pedagogical discourse. The magazine ‘A Escola’ was one of these instruments that proposed the Intuitive Method as the most appropriate one. The methodological approach for data collection was firstly carried out by surveying and cataloguing the magazine ‘AEscola’ at the Public Archives and Public Library of Paraná, located in Curitiba, Paraná. After that, we selected the relevant articles for developing the research. Finally, we analyzed and discussed the selected articles, starting from the objective proposed for this research that was to discuss the dissemination of liberal ideology in early Republican Brazil. The analysis of the magazine showed that the dissemination of the Intuitive Method as the ideal model was oportune. It disseminated liberal ideology in the name of principles of equality and freedom by proposing active teaching centered on the student’s interest and giving everyone the same opportunity to learn. This position reinforced the idea that society would develop from individual actions and everyone would succeed from individual progress.
