Abstract

ANDRE, Marli Eliza Dalmazo Afonso de  and  ALMEIDA, Patrícia Cristina Albieri de. The professional life of professors in teacher education courses. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.2, pp.203-219. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/P1519-3993-2017220200004.

The aim of the paper is to report research data on the teaching work of professors responsible for teacher education programs. The purpose of the research is to come to know the professors, their work conditions, the main challenges they face when teaching, and how these affect the development of their professional life. Data were collected through document analysis and interviews with thirty professors from two higher education institutions in the state of São Paulo, a public university and a community college. The results showed that the changes in the contemporary world have imposed new demands on the work of professors, mainly due to the heterogeneity of the students admitted at teacher education programs and the lack of institutional conditions. These require the review of teaching knowledge and practices and individual decisionmaking, taking into account that the institutions do not favor collective work or the finding of collective solutions.
