Abstract

PRIETO, Mariana Natal; SAMPAIO, Mariana  and  LIMA, Elieuza Aparecida de. Educational proposals in early childhood education: Issues on time, reading and storytelling. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.3, pp.439-453. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v23n3a3982.

The aim of the present article is to discuss the role and importance of time organization in classroom routines, as well as the place and time for reading and storytelling as essential activities for child development. Based on the research conducted by Mariana Natal Prieto and Mariana Sampaio, the main objectives were to understand aspects indicative of the organization of institutional time and the child’s time in municipal schools in Avaré, São Paulo by focusing on the impact of this organization on the process of humanization in childhood; and to understand if there are indications that reading and storytelling are activities capable of motivating learning to promote human development in early childhood education, based on principles and theses of the Historical-Cultural Theory. In early childhood schools, temporal organization requires intentional and conscious planning to combine institutional time and individual time of each child so that one does not overlap the other. When experiencing institutional time, children also need to experience their individual time as a motivating element for possible childhood activities. Thus, we emphasize that reading and storytelling activities are learning motivators that promote human development and contribute to the improvement and sophistication of higher levels of psychological capacities.
