This article presents an analysis of the use of Information and Communication Technologies in the federaluniversities of the state of Minas Gerais (Brazil), considering the latest institutional self-assessment reportselaborated by the Self Evaluation Committees of these institutions. These reports are periodically developedfollowing the guidelines of the National Higher Education Evaluation System Act. In addition, they havethe participation of the entire academic community and its main objective is to generate information forpolitical, pedagogical and administrative decision-making. From the studies carried out, it was evidentthat the participation of all the segments is fundamental for the improvement of the institution. In thefield of Information and Communication Technologies, this study concludes that each institution, due toits particularities, has given differentiated priorities both regarding information systems and technologicalinfrastructure. Distance Education was also perceived as the confluence of Information Technologies andTeaching Institutions in the face of several challenges to overcome in these Universities.
