Abstract

REYES, Lurvin Gabriela Tercero  and  GONCALVES, Suzane da Rocha Vieira. Curricular changes in High School Education from Law n°13.415/2017: Perception of High School Students. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2020, vol.25, e204577.  Epub Dec 11, 2019. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v25e2020a4577.

The present article addresses the curricular changes set out by Law n°13.415/2017 regarding Brazilian High School, and seeks to verify the perception that secondary school students of the State School Dr. Augusto Duprat of the City of Rio Grande, State of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), have about the changes proposed in the Law. The empirical basis was acquired from a qualitative thesis investigation, with the participation of 61 students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year High School. As a procedure for data production, four focus groups were formed, one for each class of the school; moreover, a closed questionnaire was applied. For the analysis of the data the methodology of content analysis, from four categories established a priori was used; the present work derives from one of those categories. Based on the data analysis, a students’ rejection discourse was identified, with regard to the determination of setting Portuguese and Mathematics as the only obligatory disciplines in the three years of secondary education. In addition, students disagreed with the proposal to include a percentage of e-learning in the school program; they also indicated that teaching is currently precarious and that such provisions would further weaken it. In the statements voiced by the students, an association between the withdrawal of disciplines like philosophy and history with government intentions to control the population was also detected. Finally, it is fundamental to listen to these young people, since they are the subjects of High School and the most affected by these changes.
