Abstract

FAUSTINO, Rosângela Célia; NOVAK, Maria Simone Jacomini  and  MENEZES, Maria Christine Berdusco. Secondary Education in indigenous schools in the state of Paraná: Current perspectives for intercultural education. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2020, vol.25, e204596.  Epub June 17, 2020. Studies on indigenous school education have grown in recent years after the expansion of higher education, with the creation of intercultural graduation through a Support Program for Higher Education and Indigenous graduates, and other forms to facilitate indigenous students’ access to universities. The experience with governmental programs is also noteworthy; they have expanded the policies of diversity, social inclusion and valorization of indigenous school throughout the country. In the State of Paraná (Brazil), an important step forward was the creation of a policy of additional vacancies, for the entry of indigenous people into public universities and the transfer of indigenous schools to the State administration in 2009, with the expansion of the Basic Education program in the communities. Acknowledging the advances in development policies focused on indigenous people, this paper discusses, through a documentary study, the current perspectives for high school education. There is little progress in this level of education, which requires specific and differentiated, intercultural and bilingual actions aimed at innovation and improvement of education, to meet the aspirations of indigenous youngsters and indigenous people.
