Abstract

MARTINS, Marcos Francisco; OLIVEIRA, Isabelle Karolline Chaves de; REZENDE, Andre Canevalle  and  ALENCAR, Naara Gonçalves. Philosophy, Sociology and work: Sorocaba region public schools’ teachers’ work concepts. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2020, vol.25, e204744.  Epub June 17, 2020. This article is the outcome of a bibliographic, documentary and field survey, based on a questionnaire answered by 69 teachers in the Sorocaba Metropolitan Region. The problem that was the object of the investigation is to identify what is the work conception of Public Schools Philosophy and Sociology teachers in that region. From the survey of the multiple meanings that the term work acquires in the educational field and the boundaries set forth by the legal rules in force, the work conceptions of the teachers surveyed are presented and reviewed. Considering the polysemy of the concept of work and the lack of rigor in the legislation definitions, three conclusions were obtained, namely: (a) the lack of definition of the national legislation in relation to the concept of work opens the door to the imposition of the teachers’ conception as guidelines for the educational processes; (b) The most widespread work conceptions include the development of workers for the market, educational principle and action that dignifies the human being, and the first one is the conception most reported by the Philosophy and Sociology teachers in the Sorocaba region (São Paulo, Brazil); (c) the implementation of the intention to apply critical pedagogies necessarily goes through a process of teacher’s education that clarifies the notion of work as an educational principle.
