DENARI, Fátima Elisabeth  e  COLOMBO, Isabella Mota. Literature review: deafness and intersectional identities. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2021, vol.26, e215287. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v26e2021a5287.

Deafness is more investigated than other identity marks, such as gender and race, generating the simplification of deaf identities and reducing the visibility of the specificities of other people also included in this group. The objective of this research is to compare what has been academically produced regarding the intersection between deafness, gender and race, when publications mention the three social markers together and when they only mention the first two. The searches were made in the databases Portal de Periódicos da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior and Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações. The search focusing on deafness and gender was called Axis 1, and the search focusing on deafness, gender and race was called Axis 2. Axis 1 resulted in six selected publications and Axis 2 in three publications. It was noticed that the Axis 1 studies did not intertwine gender and other social markers of oppression, understanding gender as an autonomous category. The Axis 2 studies showed that, in addition to race, other social markers linked to deafness do not overlap, but intersect with each other, and that in each combination there is a different form of oppression suffered by deaf women. It was concluded how important it is to use conceptual instruments that seek to analyze how the structures of oppression and privilege intertwine and how they influence the lives and the construction of deaf women’s identities.
