Based on the approach developed by Edward Said in his book titled Orientalism, this hermeneutical qualitative bibliographic study delves into the racial legacy left by Portuguese colonialism in Mozambique. Taking into consideration the ideological foundations that Said presents about the issue and based on the understanding about the colonial policy of assimilation, developed by post-colonial Mozambican literature, this reflection seeks to understand the socio-political, economic and educational impact that the segregative acts left in the same society. At the end of the discussion, rectificatory justice is proposed as an alternative approach that can help to address the challenges created by the above-mentioned situation to avoid possible conflicts among the Mozambican populace in the future.
