Pedagogical Residency Program is part of the National Teacher Training Policy. In order to record and reflect the construction of the first Pedagogical Residency Project in our university, we will present a descriptive and reflective overview about the process of program constitution regarding the relationship of the university, as an institution, between headquarters and units, and with the schools that housed the program. The positive points and the difficulties that an activity of this breadth face will be addressed. To collect the information we adopted a procedure that is categorized as a case study, in which the authors who participated as the conducting agents of the process, describe the peculiarities of the history of the implementation of the program in a diverse and multicampi university, giving their impressions about it. It was observed the importance of the program in promoting teacher training, the existence of satisfactory results related to the maturation of students, institutional incentives to the development of work and the need for continuity of the Program. However, there is a lack of a more accurate definition of the resident role with regard to the preceptor schools. To increase the scope of the program, it is suggested to expand the program to stages after the completion of the course, equivalent to what occurs in areas such as Medicine, change in the duration of the program and its transformation into specialization Lato Sensu.
