The work aims to reflect on the implications that the physical safeguard promoted by Covid-19 has had on education, specifically on the purposes of the educational process and the strengthening of values that allow the confrontation of uncertain and adverse conditions. The central approach is that two of the main risks that could face voluntary/involuntary safeguarding are the strengthening of social inequalities and an instrumentalist vision of education, which would undermine central aspects of educational training such as humanistic training that contributes to social improvement and education as a means of social promotion. To this end, it presents some of the main features of the safeguard measures applied, asking for their voluntary or involuntary nature, whether they are new processes that would be changing social processes or whether the safeguard revealed a trend that had previously been built on isolation and empowerment of technologies and those it benefits. In the case of education, there is a course on strengthening the use of digital technologies and questions whether or not physical safeguarding was necessary; Finally, a brief overview of the educational situation in Latin America and the Caribbean is presented.
