CARMONA, David Arenas  e  SANTOS, Eva Teixeira dos. The epistemology of being being there: cultural identity as a representation of the known space. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2021, vol.26, e215046. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v26e2021a5046.

The developed research tried to give visibility to the valid knowledge that involves the questions referring to the construction of cultural identity as a representation of the known space. Thus, the main objective was to analyze, in Terena culture, the relationship between the constitutive aspects of their own culture: language, traditions, folklore, myths, cosmogony, clothing, among others with the geographical space in which it is located and inserted; as well as examining the specificities of the genesis and constitution of Terena Culture. Initially based on bibliographic research, along with field study, through the application of questionnaires and subsequent analysis of the participants’ answers, categories of analysis were built. In the answers to the questionnaires, when using the Collective Subject Discourse technique, it can be observed that there is a very diffuse perception of the term geographic space, as it is mostly related to the elements proper to urbanization; in this way, for almost all research participants, space is no more than the community space they inhabit. With respect to cultural elements, these are seen more as a genetic hereditary factor than as a product of a symbiotic man-space relationship.

Palavras-chave : Culture; Geographic Space; Territory; Terena ethnicity.
