The objective is, from the significant milestone of the first stricto sensu master’s course in Education, created in 1965 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and, through a database, to detect the contours of Postgraduation in the Education field in Brazil from 1965 to 2021. Methodologically, a database was organized using the Office application, Access 2013 version, with information taken from the Lattes Platform, by the list of permanent professors of the Graduate Education programs. This list was collected on the Sucupira Platform, base year 2021; and this choice followed the concepts of the four-year period in vogue – 2014 to 2017 – with the highest concept being 7. Through 4,153 professors-researchers captured in this database, whose academic productions were classified in tables, categorized with nomenclatures (articles, books, book chapters, etc.) and present in their own Lattes Curriculum; a periodization was established with respect to the Graduate Programs in Education installed in the 5 regions of Brazil. Relating the data from this period to the social and political circumstances, both national and international, it was concluded that there were two distinct moments of the constitution of these programs in Brazil, with the implementation of master and doctorate programs in all Brazilian regions from the 1990s onwards.
