Abstract

SILVA, Cinthia Lopes da; PATREZE, Nathalia Sara  and  RIGONI, Ana Carolina Capellini. The superheroine body shape in comic books and education for leisure. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2022, vol.27, e225423. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v27e2022a5423.

Among the various media and art productions, the superheroines in comics show socially accepted standards of body beauty, which influence the readers of these stories in a certain way. The school and Physical Education classes have an important role as spaces for the construction of new knowledge, and these are fundamental for pedagogical mediation about the body and body beauty. This article aimed to analyze the body shapes of comic book superheroes based on a cultural reference and their relationship with education for leisure at school. A literature review was developed with a qualitative approach. Google Scholar and the library of the Methodist University of Piracicaba were consulted. The results indicate that the consumption of comics as a leisure practice, and especially the consumption of the image of superheroines, may be related to the production of desire for an “ideal body”. We attempt to demonstrate how superheroine comics can encourage or reinforce the search for certain beauty standards and how much this can cause problems for children and young people who consume them. Thus, based on education for leisure, the Physical Education teacher can lead students to think over these influences to review the meaning and value attributed to the body
