Abstract

CAMPOS, Vanja Ramos Vieira de  and  ROLINDO, Adriano Caetano. Leadership and school management: a questioning view at the leadership concept in education according to Spinoza’s philosophical perspective. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2022, vol.27, e225829. This article presents a contribution to understand the school management qualification and the school principal role. Affective relationships in the school collective produce results that can bring communities closer to achieving the social quality of education. We carried out a reflection based on Baruch de Spinoza’s philosophy; a debate on school management, in the sociological perspective of neoliberalism critique; and a discussion that tries to establish the concept of social quality of education, understood as the promotion of learning and the development of human beings in their entirety. In this context, we established a critique of neoliberalism’s sociological perspective. We concluded that leadership in public schools is a guarantor of rights and should enable students to play an active role in society. Therefore, the principal’s performance, as leadership in school management, is not similar to the theoretical approaches to leadership used as a basis for business management models.

Keywords : Affectivity; School management; Leadership; Social quality.
