This article derives from a research project linked to the Curriculum, Space, Movement Research Group of the Universidade do Vale do Taquari - Univates. It was carried out by an undergraduate research fellow together with a doctoral fellow of the Post-Graduate Program in Teaching of the same university, guided by the group’s coordinating professor. The objective of the research was to archive and “archivize”, the Teaching Knowledge Area’s doctoral theses (published in the period from 2013 to 2020) that operate with the notion of class in the initial training of teachers in the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel. For this purpose, the notion of archive of Michel Foucault was used as a theoretical-methodological reference. As archival procedures, Aquino and Val’s archiving and “archivizing” mechanisms were used. With the archive and the other mentioned procedures available, it was possible to observe the statements that corresponded to the notions in focus – class and initial teacher training. The investigation did not intend to display a definition of the notions; however, it showed how they emerged in this archive. Thus, as a result, there is a near-invisibility of the notions of “class” and “initial teacher training” in the production of doctoral theses of the Teaching Knowledge Area in Brazil (period 2013 - 2020).
