Abstract

SILVA, Alexsandra de Santana Soares  and  RIBEIRO, Marinalva Lopes. Social representations of undergraduate students in food engineering course on the teacher and student relationship. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2023, vol.28, e238445. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v28e2023a8445.

The article presents the results of descriptive, qualitative research, whose general objective was to understand the meanings attributed by Higher Education students to the professor-student relationship, and whose specific objective aimed to underscore the content organization the professor – student relationship representations. In producing data, we applied a questionnaire to 53 students of the Food Engineering Course, using the Free Association of Technical Words (TALP). In the data analysis, we used simple statistical operations, which helped organize the structure of the subjects’ representations. The results show that the professor-student relationship has a sense of friendship, respect, understanding, and empathy for some students. In contrast, for others, it has a sense of distance, hierarchy, and difficulty, which leads us to conclude that such discrepant representations are historical-social products related to the practices of individuals, which can directly influence the undergraduates learning process.
