Abstract: This article is part of the researches done by a group of studies and researches about educational technologies and distance education and it proposes to investigate the teacher in a learning virtual environment: his technological formation and his teaching practice. At that context, the research tried to identify inter-relations among theoretical discussions about the teachers formation to the online education and the effective practice of the teacher at this modality. The discussions of the article are based on the actual tendencies of the online teaching and on the challenges and the perspectives which appear for a more effective action at this context. The courses of teachers formation, since the initial formation, have the challenge to literate technologically this teacher by means of orientations based on reflective practices and on critical participation, getting the teacher to understand the technologies as means and possibility to extend the educational spaces, decentralizing the access to knowledge, modifying the logic of communication, getting teachers and students closer. The teacher practice on online education, independent of the course or subject, reflects his conceptions of teaching-learning and his positions about technologies. All the used data here were taken from the occurred changes in distance courses of initial and continued formation offered by a private university
