Abstract The use of laptops in Portugal is a recent and growing reality that brings new opportunities for the integration of ICT and, consequently, for the research in the area. Thus, the authors considered appropriate to disseminate the results of the research which have been developed in countries that integrated laptops in the last decade, in order to make a synthesis and analyze the added value of those technologies. Using laptops to integrate ICT can enable students to develop work with increased quality, being more autonomous and responsible. The portability and regular use of laptops leads to new ways of collaboration, as well as of writing and presenting project work. For teachers, the collaborative work (online or presence) can also be enhanced due to more regular use of this technology. Moreover, there are new opportunities to use innovative resources, to monitor the students’ work and to promote the integrated use of ICT. However, it should be stressed that to achieve those impacts teaching strategies should be centered on student learning. A strong commitment of all the educational community is also required. Without these supports resistances and difficulties in integrating ICT may subsist
