Abstract Considering the lack of research about existing practices in Portuguese schools regarding the use of learning management systems, particularly in what concerns the use of Moodle , this paper analysis if Moodle has been used to support a social constructionist framework of education or not. This paper describes what kind of activities and resources are used by teachers and how these new features have helped them to renew their teaching practices. The empirical investigation involved teachers from two schools in the north of Portugal. The results illustrate that: a) most teachers surveyed didn’t use the platform to support learning, and b) that teachers didn’t effectively use Moodle considering its whole learning potential. It is argued that technological improvement in communications stands for a development of educational purposes and experiences.
