The principal objective of this study was to identify the factors that promote the use and/or integration of the Information and Communication Technologies - ICTs - in the initial training of teachers of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education at the 'João de Deus' School of Higher Education and to propose strategies to contribute towards their integration with schools and teachers. We carried out a longitudinal study developed in four phases. We began by gathering information by means of the application of questionnaires and interviews regarding the use and/or integration of the Technologies to all graduation students from the 1st Cycle of Basic Education Teacher Certification course at the 'João de Deus' School of Higher Education, to all of their Teachers and to 15 full-time Professors - former students of our Teacher Training School. Thus, it was possible to confirm that there is a difference between information and knowledge, and that it is necessary to alter the pedagogical discourse.
