In the following study, while using the social network Facebook and more specifically the Group we created “Momentos na vida de um professor”, we both analyzed how important the instructor’s presence is in the online community of supervision and how tutorial behaviour influences its dynamics. Therefore, this text presents part of the interpretative and descriptive framework centered on the description and reflection about the influences of the instructor’s teaching presence in the conception and development of a community created online. Based on the “Community of Inquiry Framework” developed by Garrison, Anderson & Archer (2000) we assessed the instructor’s teaching presence built as virtual community of supervisible behaviours. To collect data about the diagnosis and assessment of the teaching presence, we used the Portuguese version of the “Community of Inquiry Survey Instrument” (Garrison et al.) that was translated by the first author of this text. The analysis and discussion of results of the study clearly show a reflexive perspective about the importance of teaching presence in such communities and, as far as educational supervision in online communities of inquiry is concerned, we can conclude that there is an unexploited path that can be traced in social networking. This is thus a contribution to the development of thinking on the pedagogical change in emerging scenarios of online learning and education.
