SANTOS, Rui  e  JORGE, Idalina. Utilização da plataforma Moodle por docentes do ensino não superior: o caso da escola EB 2, 3 S. João de Deus. Educ. Form. Tecnol. [online]. 2013, vol.06, n.01, pp.68-85. ISSN 1646-933X.

The aim of this study was to understand the acceptance of learning management systems (LMS) by basic school teachers and to investigate the instructional use of LMS, both for information and communication purposes in EB 2, 3 S. João de Deus, a second and third cycle school situated in the South of Portugal. The research was conducted during the school year of 2011/2012, and intended to understand the dimensions that best relate and explain the LMS pedagogical use. The predictive model includes computer use experience for teaching, experience using the Internet, ICT and Moodle and previous formal and informal training. Concurrent to the research, non- formal training sessions about Moodle’s usage, open to all teachers, were carried out in the school. The basis of the research is a survey conducted at the end of the school year 2011/2012. After performing satisfactory reliability and validity tests, the study was able to support all relationships among the variables. Furthermore, the collected data show that Moodle is still used by only a minority of the school´s teachers, and not with the desired frequency. It was equally found that Moodle is mainly used to share and provide information. Thus, all the platform tools designed for communication and collaboration and interaction are still to be fully used. A strong relation between the experience in computer use for teaching activities and Moodle usage was observed. It was also concluded that the training sessions on Moodle had a positive impact on the teachers’ awareness of the platform.
