In this research we opted for qualitative research, using the case study. The results showed the attempt of the community moderators to foster the few discussions that appear that relate to chemistry. The moderators considered that the social network may allow greater interaction in the teaching and learning process, however, they also suggested that the social network was not created to be the locus of knowledge, although it may provide moments of informal learning.
