In scientific practice, there is not the image for the image. The image is always respected a process, the result of a theory or the representation of a reasoning or model. In this article I will introduce the discussion on the functioning of images in a work of popularization of the sciences. The publication of 1955 of the book Astronomie Populaire of Camille Flammarion is the object of analysis. This preliminary study indicates a functioning of illustration and of demonstration of the proof of “to do sciences”.
