The importance of motivation and creativity for learning has not received much attention in Brazilian studies. Therefore the purpose of this study was to investigate the possible relationships between motivation for learning and thinking styles. The sample was composed of 190 high school students, 125 females and 65 males, mean age of 15, residing in different cities located in São Paulo state (Brazil). The instruments utilized were the scales Motivation for School Learning and Creative and Thinking Styles. Pearson’s correlations indicated significant relationships among various motivation factors, such as involvement and persistence in school activities, competence feelings, and self actualization with the thinking and creative styles. These results indicated the proximity of motivation and creativity concepts and demonstrated the need for more studies relating these complex constructs in order to offer important information for education and school learning.
