The presence of psychotropic drugs and drug abuse among students at school is well acknowledged by research which also evinces the need to improve teacher’s formation in drug abuse prevention. Studies demonstrate that classroom context and teacher performance are essential elements to guarantee learning interest and enthusiasm. The objective of the present study was to investigate whether the pedagogical practices of teachers are appropriate to the existing demand to deal with drug abuse among students. A pedagogical intervention was carried out with basic Education in service teachers (23), using the dialectical method (thesis, antithesis, and synthesis) as a theoretical framework. The intervention was structured and planned focusing in the promotion of the motivation to learn among the participating teachers. Results showed that the construction of a stimulating learning environment is associated with the motivation of the learner. Moreover, they suggested that teachers´ inconsistent proposals in the beginning of the intervention were revised and transformed into new and more contextualized and adequate proposals, in which knowledge of drug abuse prevention was more profound and articulated.
