In this paper we aim to show that the current culture, derived from the economic and social organization and spread the culture industry, continues to generate what Adorno conceptualized as "erudition". Through our research and observations on the habits and behavior of students in a public school elementary and middle of a city of a metropolitan area of Sao Paulo, we could see the relevance of the concept and realize that the current phase of "erudition" acts as a real obstacle to literacy by means of formal education. Thus, the difficulties of teaching and learning are not just only a matter of methodology used by the teacher.
