ANDRADE, Elenise Cristina Pires de  e  OLIVEIRA, Renato Salgado de Melo. Cartas, caminha(o), viajantes, mutantes, mares: grafias (in)visíveis (des)marcando espaços (s)em tempos. ETD [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.02, pp.124-145. ISSN 1676-2592.

Caminha forwards a letter to the King: “About sailors and sailing the way I shall not tell Your Majesty - for I will not be able to do so and the crew officers should worry about that - and therefore, My Lord, I shall start by telling you the subject of my writings”. Through the voyages presented in this text, we intend to say and talk about new lands, other writings, diverse times. The creatures seen in the New Lands, presented the old eyes by Afonso d'Escragnolle-Taunay, mutants in the films by Marvel Comics, X-Men. So many lives, so much of the new escapes the control of what can be classified as old, new; normal, abnormal; freedom, control. What (in)visibilities pulse from these lives? Times multiplied in memories (or oblivions) of the mutants Wolverine and Magneto who have accompanied us throughout seas, memories, skin marks. In the first film, the universal time of liberty, as always: freedom in almost unbearable tensions. In the second one, the space is a sign of past, the permanence of a time-memory. And at last, the time that drags from imprisonment, time that can not be liberated for it needs to be normalized. Times and places that are (in)visibly written (?) with mutants, throughout the seas, with travelers who, like Caminha, always write letters. “I kiss the hands of Your Highness. From this safe port, from your Island of Vera Cruz, today, Friday, first Day of May 1500” and, from where I start, I have not finished. Also knowing that whoever is addressed by this writing may not find it at all. “This we thought ourselves, and gave it these meanings, just by wishing to do so”.
