Recent studies have focused on youth culture, but there are gaps regarding the wishes of young people. This text presents results of research by the Centre for Youth, Culture of Peace and Violence in Schools - OBJUVE at the Federal University of Piauí. The study specifically dealt with the practices of Hip Hop Life in the Poverty-striken urban outskirts (Life P), the Movement for Peace in the Periphery (MP 3) and another study about "Youth, Media and Violence ", with the objective of understanding the process identity construction, and the youth involved in such practices of sociability. Theoretical references used for this text include Adad (2004), Fischer (2008), and Gilioli & Catani (2008), Bomfim (2006), Sposito (2003), among others. The data collection involved observations of the youth in their everyday activities and a questionnaire with open and closed questions. As results, we may conclude that the identities of the young people in these outlying urban neighborhoods of Teresina are developed in the midst of groups of friends, the movements in which they participate, and colleagues in the school environment by engaging in specific cultural activities (mobile cinema theater, dance, etc.), planned mediated formative activities. Despite these experiences, the young people remain strongly influenced by consumer marketing trends through mass media institutions that strengthen the practice of violence.
