Abstract

FERREIRA, Simone de Lucena. Education in the age of digital TV: interfaces and connections. ETD [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.03, pp.343-364. ISSN 1676-2592.

At the end of the 1980s some European countries and Japan and the United States began research to develop models of digital television. In Brazil only in 2003 after the publication of Decree 4901, began the development of research aiming to build a Brazilian System of Digital Television (SBTVD) which among other objectives should promote social inclusion and the formation of an education network distance. Digital TV is considered by some authors as a new media, it bears characteristics of the computer and television. Thus, this new media can provide new forms of communication, production of content and interactivity, which for the area of education are issues of fundamental importance, since with the analog television is not possible to build collaborative content both the technological factor as the centralizing political factor of production available today. In this paper, we analyze some aspects of the deployment of digital TV in Portugal and Brazil as well as possibilities for use of the Service The Teacher in the Classroom developed by the Foundation Center for Research and Development in Telecommunications. As a result of this work, we see the potential of digital TV in the formation of networks of collaboration needed for education development. We realize that it is also responsible for the education systems and educators make evident that we want a digital TV that allows for the development of collaborative networks able to foster the interconnection between education, culture and knowledge.
