Abstract

SILVA, Daniel Monteiro da. NGOs and public schools: the word of educators. ETD [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.02, pp.138-150. ISSN 1676-2592.

This article examines the connections between public and private sphere, in the particular context of the "third sector " and its consequences for education. Along with other players, represented by civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has gained increasing visibility and sparked interest from different perspectives. In Brazil, the articulation between public and private sectors, in education, has relied more speeches than in practice. This article discusses the results of qualitative research through which I examine the hypothesis that there is such a contribution between ONGs and public schools. Some NGOs in the formulation of their programs and projects, stimulates students to attend schools, but invalidate all the actions accomplished by them. That behavior has contribute to raise oppositions among the NGO and the basic public schools, justified for example, by the students attitudes that bring commitment, interests and participation at the NGO programs, on the other hand, lethargy, lack of incentive and extreme aversion of school. The lack of specific laws, the absence of official statistics, speeches without giving reasons and the lack of visibility from the player who work with the NGO and schools partnership, disguise the situation of this relationship. Teachers of public schools that operate simultaneously in social projects of NGOs present themselves as privileged players to understand this context.
