Abstract

ARCHANGELO, Ana  and  LUZ, Tagiane Maria da Rocha. The dynamics of aggressiveness in the classroom: a possible and necessary analytical approach. ETD [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.01, pp.258-268. ISSN 1676-2592.

The article addresses aggressiveness in the classroom and examines a case of a boy in his third school year (former 2nd grade) in a state school in a neighborhood vulnerable to social exclusion in a city in the interior of São Paulo. The investigation comprised direct observation in classroom, visits to his home, interview with family members and individual meetings with the child. During the meetings the child was free to play, read, draw, paint, or simply talk and chat with the researcher. A connection between aggressiveness and a failure to overcome primitive mental mechanisms typical of the schizoid-paranoid condition described by Klein was perceptible. The article underscores: the need to analyze that condition in the light of the processes of social exclusion experienced by the child and its family. It also highlights difficulties faced by the school itself and possible interventions on the part of the institution in the child’s situation.
