Abstract

CAMPOS, André Malta. O Mc Homero e o Rapsodo Max Bo: a épica grega na linguagem do Rap. ETD [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.03, pp.523-533. ISSN 1676-2592.

My aim here is to present the project I took part in in 2011, “Iliad and Odyssey: rhythm and poetry”, which brought about a “translation” to rap of four Homeric passages, all performed in the city of São Paulo by MC Max BO and DJ Babão. In this paper, I will not only approach the main features of the Iliad and the Odyssey, but also explain how they relate to the way contemporary rappers create their poetry, making the case for a productive connection between Homer and this urban artistic expression. The pioneering work here in Brazil points to new possibilities of taking academic topics to a large audience.

Keywords : Homer; Greek Poetry; Rap.
