One of the challenges facing education is to reflect about how to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) effectively to provide students with a meaningful and contextualized learning. This study chose to search directly from electronic games, since they are present in the culture of the students and can assist in the construction of knowledge, enabling the student to learn playing concepts, values and attitudes related to different school subjects. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate which electronic games preferred of the students from the 9th year of basic education of public schools of Rio Claro, beyond time, place and platform of game. The research was conducted Descriptive type and as an instrument for data collection was elaborated a questionnaire with closed and open questions that aimed to extract the relevant information to research participants. The results showed that 95% of students enjoy electronic games, especially sports (39%) and the hobby (25%). Every day of the week they play, the computer is the most widely used platform and the cell phone that students spend more time playing. As a result of this study it is expected that teachers are aware of the necessity of working in the world of students, to motivate to formulate new strategies contextualized lessons and fight for the changes needed for effective use of ICT in education.
