This is paper is an essay about Environmental Education. It was produced after five years of interdisciplinary studies and reflections developed in graduate programs. The main objective of this work is to elucidate fundamental questions about the state referred to as planetary environmental crisis, specifically addressing the role of education towards this crisis. Here, we present the idea that the perception and understanding of the environment are paradoxically segregated into two distinct major and contradictory strands, which we name here as "environment without brackets" and "environment in brackets". At the end we hope to share a qualified view on Environmental Education as a historical, critical and transformative dimension of the very own environment, while we wish to motivate future and even more dense researches.
