This paper aims to analyze the conditions of supply of education offered in the schools of Ribeirão Preto city, São Paulo state, in its relations with the socioeconomic conditions of the population of the areas in which they are. It seeks to analyze if the educational policy has a component of equity, providing schools with adequate conditions in the poorest regions of the municipality. We used a quantitative approach with the School Census microdata (2010) and Population Census (2010). The results underscore the precariousness of public education offered in the city, in general and point to the fact that schools in the poorest areas of the city tend to have poor conditions, especially regard to the ratio students/class and infrastructure. This finding highlights the need to prepare aimed at reducing inequalities of different kinds in schools with a view to meet the constitutional principle that determines the equal educational opportunities. For this much more investment is vital, in particular as regards the conditions of the offer, are directly linked to adequate funding.
