SALATINO, André Toreli  e  BUENO, Belmira Oliveira. Between juvenile worlds: the technologies in the life and schooling of working class students. ETD [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.3, pp.576-595. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v17i3.8637511.

The article analyses the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the school lives of working class high school students with the focus on the cell phones. The qualitative data come from an ethnographic research carried out during 2012 at a São Paulo state school which included classroom observation, questionnaire and a focal group. Quantitative data were extracted from the Centre for Studies on Information and Communication Technologies 2013. The analyses, in a sociological perspective, showed that technologies constitute one of the bases of the social experience of contemporary youths, and that even if the school fails to incorporate ICT into its practices, the pupils bring mobile devices into it. However, students do not mobilize these devices to enhance their school learning, but rather to get away from the school universe and to return to the themes of their juvenile world. Therefore, to think about incorporating these technological elements into the school culture requires understanding the responsibility of the school and of its teachers in the pedagogical use of these resources, as well as considering that technologies may contribute to the amplification of inequalities rather than to social and school democratization.
