Resumen

HEUSER, Ester Maria Dreher. In a time of “nonpartisan school”, let us ask: what is the role of education in a society? What should be expected from the school and the teachers?. ETD [online]. 2017, vol.19, suppl., pp.206-216. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v19i0.8647814.

In times of “Nonpartisan School”, this paper takes this opportunity to address the following issues: what is the role of education in a society? What should be expected from the school and the teachers? Some answers have become possible by considering the thought of Hannah Arendt, a philosopher who developed a conservative notion of education, one unlinked to politics because, among other reasons, according to her, political battles, which should be a concern for educated adults, should not be fought at the schoolyard, a place that welcomes the newcomers with its total novelty. Grounded on this theoretical basis, and intertwined with the discussion about the “Nonpartisan School” Bill, this paper advocates that education is an inalienable right and we, as teachers, due to the civilizing and cultural importance of our work, are key pieces for the development of both the country and humankind, as well as for the continuity of the world, which insists in flying off its hinges.

Palabras clave : Hannah Arendt; Education; School; Nonpartisan School.
