Abstract

ROCHA, Luiz Renato Martins da  and  LACERDA, Cristina Broglia Feitosa de. Entrance examinations in LIBRAS understanding this process through the coodinating teacher. ETD [online]. 2017, vol.19, n.4, pp.720-736. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v19i4.8646250.

Over the past decades, the number of enrollments in higher education has grown exponentially in Brazil; therefore, the number of people with disabilities in this level of education has also grown substantially, in proportion, even more than people without disabilities. In such context, the guiding question which moved this research on higher education for deaf people and, specifically, on video recorded examination in Libras, can be understood as follows: What do the coordinating teachers of the entrance examination of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) say about the video recording of these tests? Thus, in this study we aimed to understand aspects of the entrance examination in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) in its particularities and in addition to reading the public notices. To achieve this objective, we used a qualitative research with exploratory and descriptive nature and semi-structured interviews. All interviews were translated and categorized in order to identify differences and similarities in the depositions. The results show that the translation of the entrance examination in Libras is a costly process, however, it is unanimous among the coordinating teachers their agreement with the maintenance of this kind of entrance examination and its expansion to larger scales tests.
