Abstract

BOTLER, Alice Happ. Justice and democracy in school: the art of justifying practices. ETD [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.2, pp.305-324. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v20i2.8650401.

Introduction:

The article proposes to characterize the structure of the school experience to make visible the injustices that compose it, as well as to extend the understanding on the conceptions of school justice by Brazilian and Portuguese subjects in terms of their organization and justification in the contemporaneity. The analysis is distinct and complementary to the legal bias that has been central in educational debates when it comes to justice. Method: It presents research results that aimed to analyze conceptions of students from Brazilian and Portuguese schools regarding justice, fair school, fair / unfair practices within the school organization. The case study used interviews conducted in 4 high schools, whose data were analyzed based on the Content Analysis approach. Results and Conclusion: These data stimulate us to consider that the sense of injustice is more present in Brazilian schools, in which teachers and students point out experiences of indiscipline and violence in school daily life, justifying unfair practices, alerting to the different forms that social inequality assumes in both countries.
