Abstract

The present article will discuss the museum as a privileged space for education, promotion and access to culture through the “Descobrindo Embu no Museu” project’s trajectory. “Descobrindo Embu no Museu” is a museum education project developed since 2007 by the Museu de Arte Sacra dos Jesuítas, located in the municipality of Embu das Artes, which goal is to bring the local community closer to the city’s cultural heritage through rescuing the local culture, acknowledging these identities and making the feeling of belonging to this history stronger. Winner of the Darcy Ribeiro Prize of Museum Education, promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), its educative action consists on the lecturing of elementary schools’ teachers and their students’ visit to the museum. In this year of 2017, the project completes 10 years since its creation and, through its history, this text aims to summarize its actions, disserting on its development, application, results, advances and challenges that emerged throughout a whole decade of existence.
