Abstract

BRAZOROTTO, Cintia Magno  and  VENCO, Selma Borghi. VOCATIONAL EDUCATION IN BRAZIL: HISTORY AND POLITICS OF THE FEDERAL INSTITUTES. ETD - Educ. Temat. Digit. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.2, pp.487-505. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v23i2.8656863.

This article analyses the segments of the population privileged in vocational education throughout its constitution and, more recently and specifically, in the integrated high school in the Federal Institutes (IFs). It is the result of a multi-method research on the early days of professional education in Brazil, given that it was aimed at the underprivileged, both as a way to contain the marginality and as a possibility of future entry into the labor market. However, this course changes when applying for admission to technical schools. This dimension is approached by focusing on the particularity of the educational policy aimed at the IFs and it is noted that the priority target audience of the institution is not contemplated and, therefore, partially fulfills its purposes.

Keywords : Educational policy; Vocational education; Integrated education.
