This paper analyzes, from codes close of hermeneutical thougth, a very representative selection of speeches delivered in different Spanish universities in the special framework of the opening day of the academic year (the so-called Fiesta de la Ciencia), in the last eighty years. The selected speakers studied are profesors of their speciality in the field of social sciences, which shows a strong symbolism of power and intelectual authority, and they adress the social and educational problems of migrants and refugees when they arrive in Spain. The main reflection distilled from these inaugural lectures leads to the commitment to intercultural education and reception of inmigrants and refugees, and to the commitment suggested to universities to contribute to the mitigation or resolution of derived, and un resolved conflicts, of massive inmigration and its settlement in certain Spanish geographic áreas.
